Reinforcement technology

Concrete elements are normally reinforced with steel rebar. The reinforcement is either placed using individual straight bars, in the form of meshes or using bent bars and stirrups. In addition, prefabricated reinforcement elements are used to allow for efficient construction methods or when structures simply could not be built using only plain steel reinforcement.

Structural joints in buildings can be built reliably using the certified heavy duty dowel systems. Flat roof slabs require punching reinforcement around the columns, the Schöck Bole®.

Where steel reaches its limits, however, ComBAR®, a glass fibre reinforced polymer rebar, can be installed. The first non-metallic reinforcement for permanent structures which does not corrode, is not magnetic, does not conduct electric or thermal currents and has bond properties which are very similar to those of steel rebar.
