Schöck creates new Product Engineer role to enhance customer service

Since its formal introduction to the UK in 2006 the Schöck Isokorb® range of thermal break solutions has quickly established itself here as market leader.  There was the little matter of having held pole position in the rest of Europe for twenty or so years prior, but that alone did not guarantee success in an increasingly demanding UK construction sector. Certainly the legacy of proven high technical performance values helped, although a dedicated and focused UK marketing policy has been influential too. Perhaps one of the most significant elements of this policy has been the attention given to providing specifiers, engineers and contractors with an unrivalled level of design and technical support

It is part of the Schöck ethos that customer satisfaction determines the company’s  behaviour and its actions, and this applies as much to developing services as it does to developing products. By necessity the engineers in the technical team are primarily project orientated, working closely with clients on specific day-to-day job related issues. However, it was recognised recently that there was scope for a role with a broader more ‘educative’ approach, placing the emphasis more on the general principles of thermal break issues and good design practice.

As a result, a new Product Engineer role has been created for which Martin Ernst, BEng, University of Applied Sciences Munich, has taken up the challenge.

Martin was previously a member of the Schöck technical team and he observes: “It is very important that anyone involved with the thermal break design process should be looking for both a functional structural solution, and one which provides the best thermal performance. Getting across the design principles involved at an early stage can save both time and cost, because unworkable or inefficient solutions can be ruled out early on”.

Among Martin’s immediate priorities are the development of a series of Technical Seminars to cover structural topics and thermal break design principles as they affect the internal structure of a building and compliance with Part L. In addition he will be looking to ensure that all planning offices are supported with the latest calculation software and are regularly updated on new products and the latest technical information.

If you would like an evaluation as to how his new role could be beneficial to your operation, or to discuss specific issues concerning thermal break design, Martin will be pleased to hear from you  and can be contacted on:
